SEASON OUTLOOK

Rigby started last season with a lot of promise, coming off a nice playoff run. Yet injuries, trades, and other mishaps led to a dismal second-to-last finish in the regular season and a last-place finish in the Consolation Bracket. A nine-week losing streak to close the season might leave a bad taste in the mouth of some owners, but not Nathan Wallace, now in his second season after taking control of the Trojans. "Coach is ready to take the Trojans back to the playoffs," said team spokesman and Keeper Joe Johnson. "We want to put Rigby back on the map."

The Trojans have added two participants from last year's Concludings: Vince Carter, who made it to the WFBLs marquee game with Twin Falls in 2008, a year after winning Concludings EBP in 2007 with Bayside; and Rashard Lewis, who returns to the Trojans after a championship-winning run last year with Zermatt.

"After this season, people will think 'quality basketball' when they think of Rigby," Lewis said, echoing the desire of many fans to dispel any myths or rumors that Rigby is less than an ideal place to be. "You know, instead of the usual 'do they still only have two stoplights there?' or 'why don't they ever plow the roads in the winter?', or my favorite 'do they still let you out of school for potato harvest?'"

It's a well-known fact the map makers follow the WFBL very closely, and they punish cities whose teams who do poorly by removing their names from their maps. It's true! Next time you're looking at a map of California, try to find Bayside. I'm telling you, you won't find it. For this reason, many WFBL teams get a lot of pressure from their city's chamber of commerce to put their city "on the map."
On the other hand, map makers reward teams that do well by printing their city's name in a larger font, often in bold face. Next time you look at a map of Utah, notice how much larger and bolder "Salt Lake City" is than any other city in the state. Larger, yes, than St. George, Nephi, and Park City. Most map makers have even adorned Salt Lake with a small star, indicating that they expect great things from the SnowBees this year. Look it up! It's a verifiable fact.
