WEEK 5 POWER RANKINGS

WHERE WE WONDER IF THERE WILL EVER BE A BETTER WEEK OF WFBL ACTION

Will the Iguanas be the team to stop the "Swiss Rail"? Can Park City continue its early-season dominance by beating upstart Nephi? Two Games-of-the-Week for the price of one!

Seriously, how did the schedule-makers see this one coming? It's Week 6 and we get an early-season temperature check on the top four teams in the league. In this corner, we have Maracaibo visiting nemesis Zermatt for first place in the World Conference. In the other corner, we have Park City—ranked in the top three in six statistical categories—traveling to unbeaten Nephi with first place in the Wasatch on the line. Oh and there are some other games too.

Team, Rank, (Previous), Overall, (Last Week)

1 (1) 28-16-1 (5-4)
Zermatt, out of respect, we keep you at number one, but you have company. The defending champs keep winning, and shouldn't drop till they do. But the outlook does not seem too bright with the Iguanas coming to town. A win here and the Power Rankings graciously genuflects at your collective feet.

1 (3) 28-16-1 (7-2-0)
Are the 'Dancers that good, or are the Gators a fluke? Um, the 'Dancers are that good. Park City leads the league in points, is second in blocks and steals, third in FG%, rebounds, and assists, fourth is threes, and fifth in FT%. Whew. Now if they caould only work on those turnovers (ranked last) then Park City might have something.

3 (2) 27-18-0 (6-3-0)
It's hard to drop Nephi for beating a decent Trojan team 6-3 (especially playing short-handed), but Park City's win was just that impressive. For the Strats to keep up their success, they're going to need to figure out what to do at the SF position (welcome back, McBaby). Somewhere Devin Jackson is nodding in agreement.

4 (5) 27-17-1 (5-4-0)
A good bounce-back win for 'Caibo, taking down Richmond without the services of forward Carlos Boozer. The Iguanas and A-Boms are clearly the class of the World conference, and coach Hopkin would like nothing more than to be the one who puts an end to Zermatt's unbeaten streak.

5 (3) 23-21-1 (2-7-0)
Just when we thought the Gators had things figured out, they go and get it handed to them by Park City. Now, granted, there aren't a lot of teams that wouldn't have gotten a beat-down by the 'Dancers, but look at Twin Falls' results: only two series wins in five weeks. That makes this week's visit from Salt Lake crucial.

6 (10) 21-21-3 (7-2)
We always thought that the U-Dogs were better than their record indicated. Getting Devin Harris in their starting lineup in the midst of his best stretch of his career was a savvy move by Truman. A key conference match-up against Rigby at Super Energy Vitamin Pill Arena awaits St. George.

7 (8) 20-24-1 (4-5-0)
Three straight losses for a team that started out 12-6, and the Butchers can ill afford a loss to World conference bottom-dweller Bayside. Here's an interesting factoid: Richmond now sits in fourth place in the conference...behind Udorn! That's right, we said Udorn!

8 (7) 20-24-1 (3-6-0)
Big game this week for Rigby, after suffering their second-straight 6-3 defeat. Good news for Trojan fans: the Leandro Barbosa Experience appears to be over, let the Raymond Felton Fun Time begin!

9 (11) 21-24-0 (6-3-0)
Fresh off their first victory of the season, the Jai-Rai welcome a fully healthy (?) Deron Williams back to their starting lineup. New York on the road is a winnable game, and with the Butchers' struggles, third place in the World is Udorn's to lose.

10 (9) 18-27-0 (4-5-0)
New York comes thisclose to stopping Zermatt's unbeaten streak, almost a year after being the first team to knock off red-hot St. George. If there was room for another Game of the Week, it'd be Jai-Rai at Kings, which should show us a lot about these two teams.

11 (6) 17-28-0 (2-7-0)
There you are, Salt Lake! Did you have a fun time "finding yourself"? I know, it's a cruel world up there in the top half of the rankings. It's okay, we made your favorite meal, and didn't even touch your bedroom, it's just the way it was when you left it. Sincerely, the bottom of the Power Rankings.

12 (12) 15-29-1 (3-6-0)
Bayside has yet to notch more than three wins in any of their five match-ups this season. How long will Lachowsky let this team languish and suffer? Is there no end to the demoralizing losses? Hello? Rich? Are you out there?
